Rollover Closes I-84 in Danbury, Firefighters Extricate Driver
A nasty-looking rollover crash shut down Interstate 84 in Danbury for about an hour on Friday night (January 24) but has since reopened.
According to the Danbury Fire Department, the one-car motor vehicle accident occurred around 7:30 PM at just about the exit 7 mark on I-84 near Route 7 North.
The state DOT says that within a very short period of time following the crash, the both eastbound lanes in that particular area of I-84 were closed as first responders went to work.
Under the command of Deputy Chief Joe Halas, Danbury FD's platoon C used a special instrument called rescue struts to stabilize the rolled over vehicle, the worked to pull the driver out, who had been trapped inside. In the meantime, Connecticut State Troopers were there to secure the scene.
Once the unidentified driver was fully extricated from the vehicle, local EMS transported he or she to Danbury Hospital to be treated. As of this writing, there has been no updates avaiable regarding the driver's medical condition.
The closed section of the highway was reportedly reopened within an hour of the accident, according to the Department of Transportation.
