I don't know what it is about wooden roller coasters, but they make me feel all warm and tingly inside. It's like they are the representation of my childhood and also my father's childhood. They're iconic. I know they're not going to be extinct tomorrow, but steel roller coasters are now the norm, and that's okay too.

There is something about a wooden roller coaster. You feel the flexible wood bending beneath you, and it makes the whole experience of the roller coaster so much more exciting. The fact that you can feel the motions of the wood as you speed along. Well, it's just cool.

That's why it is the end of an era at Six Flags New England. Cyclone is being retired because that's what happens to roller coasters after some time. It was built in 1983 and has given many joy rides over the year. It has 3,400 feet of track and goes about 50 miles per hour. It will officially retire July 20th, so get your rides in while you can.

President of Six Flags New England said this about the roller coaster in a press release statement:

“It is always difficult whenever we say goodbye to a classic attraction, especially one that is so beloved like the Cyclone. As the Thrill Capital of New England, we are always searching new ways to provide thrills and enhance our guests’ experience and sometimes retiring older attractions is part of the process.”

Sadness. RIP Cyclone

your ride will live on in this youtube video!
