According to the Farmer's Almanac, Connecticut's snow lovers are going to love this winter's ski season.

Connecticut can expect a snowy cold winter, perfect for the avid skier, but can we really trust those long-range forecasts? The answer would be not really. On average, the Farmer's Almanac is usually 50 percent on target, which is no greater than random chance. But, just if you're curious, they're predicting a major east coast snowstorm between December 12-15.

Connecticut's four main ski areas are getting ready to welcome you all to their mountains by working together to make your skiing experience both safe and fun. The four areas I'm referring to are Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, Powder Ridge in Middlefield, Ski Sundown in New Hartford, and Mount Southington in Hartford County.

All will be operating this winter at 50 percent capacity. According to all four ski areas, the challenge in keeping people safe will be when customers arrive and what they do between the runs and the end of the day, according to Mount Southington's General Manager, Jay Dougherty, when he talked with Hearst Connecticut Media.

Many of the larger ski areas are set up for online sales and are encouraging patrons to make reservations in advance of their arrival, so they're better able to manage their customer's flow. Also, at the larger areas like Killington, Hunter Mountain, and Mount Snow, ski resort operators urge their guests to purchase an Epic Pass, which offers priority access to reservations. The 'Season Pass' at the smaller mountains offer the same kind of amenities.
