Solar power is gaining popularity as people look for ways to save on their electric bills. Newtown wants to help residents interested in solar power get the information they need.

According to the Danbury News Times, the Newtown Sustainable Energy Commission will hold workshops on November 4 and November 19 where residents can learn about limited-time savings on roof-mounted solar systems. The workshops will take place in the meeting room at the Booth Library (25 Main St.) from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

They want to help more residents be able to use solar energy. The Newtown Sustainable Energy Commission is working with two solar energy companies and Kathy Quinn, chair of the Newtown Sustainable Energy Commission wants to provide more options for those that are considering using solar power.

“Two years ago we had the Solarize Newtown program and we doubled the number of residential solar installations in town,” said Kathy Quinn, chair of the Newtown Sustainable Energy Commission in a prepared statement. “The Newtown Energy Challenge will provide a new opportunity to educate, empower and provide more options for people thinking of going solar and that's a good thing.”
