The most significant and tragic event in my lifetime happened on September 11, 2001.

Today is the 16th anniversary, if my math is correct, of both the ugliest and most beautiful displays of humanity I've seen in my life. It's amazing to me that there are teenagers that were not born when this happened. I think it's important that we all remember that day and share with our young kids what happened — how it made us feel and how it shaped the world they live in today.

Something happened that I think many of us forget in the days after the attack, that could benefit us all now. The world, and more importantly the people in this country, came together as a united front to fight hate with love, compassion and a helping hand.
There were no red and blue states, no sides of the isle, just a massive group of people who chose to love and protect each other -- we need that more than ever now.
