The long awaited arrival of Planet Fitness in Southbury seems to be inching closer to reality. I noticed plenty of activity starting up in the parking lot at 150 Main Street South right before the holidays. Fencing went up around the perimeter of the parking lot, and as you can see in the photo above, the dumpsters are on scene signaling that there is some movement finally in the conversion of the old Labonne's Supermarket into what's been announced as a Planet Fitness.

H.H. Stone & Sons employees must be thrilled to finally be on the verge of getting some of that lost foot traffic back. I'm still pretty puzzled though, as to why nobody has snatched up the former K Mart building in Southbury Plaza? I can't tell you how many times I've has discussions with my Southbury/Middlebury/Newtown/Waterbury friends about how we wished Amazon/Whole Foods or Trader Joe's would open up in Southbury, instead of all of us having to drive to Danbury or West Hartford (Closest Whole Foods/Trader Joe's).

I though we were getting close when Price Chopper decided to open up their upscale Market 32 along Rt. 67 in Oxford, and the vacancies in Southbury Plaza and the former LaBonne's opened up. But, alas, nope.

Come on Southbury, I think it's time to bring Amazon money and Two Buck Chuck to town.
