Southbury Native Debuts Her Star Studded Film, ‘EGG’

Southbury native and Pomperaug High graduate, screenwriter Risa Mickenberg, is set to show her new film in Southbury.

Growing up, Risa used to usher at the Southbury Playhouse and was an active theatergoer, which eventually inspired her to write her own play. Now a successful screenwriter, that play has been turned into a major motion picture called EGG, starring Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), David Alan Basche (The Good Wife) and Alysia Reiner (Orange is the New Black).

On Wednesday, January 23, for one night only, you're invited to the Riverview Cinemas at 690 Main St. South to watch Risa Mickenberg's play come to life on the big screen. Best of all, Risa will be at the theatre to discuss the film after its showing. Here's what she has had to say about created the emotional comedy:

I’d never seen the issues around the choice to have children depicted in film or in fiction. I think it’s a hugely important decision and to choose to not do it is as valuable as doing it and is almost never depicted. I think lots of people are choosing less traditional paths in life - and happiness is thoroughly individual.

EGG is a satirical comedy revolving around reasons we choose parenthood. Mickenberg has never observed the controversies around the choice to have children portrayed in film or fiction. The film debuted at the TriBeCa Film Festival and has been shown at the Nantucket and Philadelphia Film Festivals. EGG has also earned a perfect score of 100% from one of the best movie and TV review websites, Rotten Tomatoes. Check out the trailer:
