Let's face it; no one likes to see a lost or homeless dog or cat wandering the streets scrounging for food and shelter. When Danbury animal control picked up a wandering dog or cat, they would be housed in a depressingly old windowless building. But not anymore!

We send out a huge thank you to Danbury resident Warren Levy, who donated $300,000 to make the Ellen Levy Animal Control Facility on Plumtrees Road a reality in honor of his late wife.

The new facility has heated floors inside and outside to keep the animal's paws toasty warm during the winter, along with a cleaning station and room for potential adopters to get to know the animals. The facility's certificate of occupancy was issued earlier this month. Levy told the Newstimes,

It's not like walking into a dark dungeon. It's state of the art which speaks well for the community and the care they have for animals in general. They've got some great people working there who really care about animals, as well.

The new facility also includes a three-zone system for heat and air conditioning to keep the animals comfortable. Even though the dogs and cats will finally be cozy, nothing beats a new home for these critters. To find out how you can adopt your new pet, click on their Facebook page.
