While many of the details are very limited at the time of this writing, there is tragic news to report out of New Fairfield tonight. Connecticut State Police have confirmed that a couple has passed away following an apparent murder-suicide.

According to The Greater New Milford Spectrum, the State Police Public Information Office was the first to confirm that the tragedy in New Fairfield was in fact a murder-suicide, but would not go into any further detail regarding the matter. They explained that Connecticut has a statute that protects the confidentiality of the identities of victims of certain crimes, including those of family violence.

In a separate report on Tuesday evening, however, News 12 Connecticut says that the incident occurred on Monday, April 15, when Michael Ciorra was allegedly beaten and stabbed, while his wife, Jennifer Ciorra, reportedly died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to the New Milford Spectrum, New Fairfield town records show that Michael Ciorra was 51 years old and Jennifer Ciorra was 47 years old. Neighbors told News 12 reporters that the couple leaves behind two young sons.

This tragedy is a developing story and we'll be sure to keep you updated as more information rolls in. Our condolences go out to all those affected.
