State Police Remember Trooper Whose Life Was Cut Short

Connecticut State Trooper, James W. Lambert was only 26 when his career tragically came to an end in 1960.

On October 29, 1960, Lambert was on patrol on Route 6 in Bethel when he pulled over a motorist, according to the Connecticut State Police. A 26-year-old driver, who was intoxicated, struck and killed Lambert instantly. He had only been a State Trooper for seven short months.

In June of 2007, Governor Jodi Rell signed a bill designating Route 6, from Vail Road to the Danbury border as Trooper James W. Lambert Memorial Highway. In the glove compartment of his cruiser was the engagement ring he had purchased that day to give to his girlfriend.

The Connecticut State Police remember Trooper James W. Lambert on this day, October 29 and even though his service as a trooper tragically ended after seven short months, his brief appearance within the CT State Police left a mark.

A special state police award was created to honor Trooper Lambert called 'The Trooper James W. Lambert Award which is given "to a Connecticut resident under the age of 21 who exhibits exceptional courage and swiftness, regardless of his or her own personal safety, in an effort to save the life of any person in danger."
