Strong Storms in Greater Danbury Today, Hurricane Not a Threat

With Hurricane Laura slamming into the Gulf Coast, people in our area are wondering if we'll see any remnants of this dangerous storm in our area.

Hurricane Laura is causing havoc for some Gulf states, but will we see any of the remnants in the Greater Danbury area in the coming days? According to our staff Meteorologist, Bill Jaquemin, the answer is probably not. "The cold front coming through on Friday and Saturday is going to keep everything to our south and push it away", Jaquemin said. "We're really protected with this northwest flow, it keeps all the tropical moisture away from us. The only change I can see at this point with Laura, is if the system slows down and stalls and the pattern changes and we get into a southwest flow again, then it would pick it up. But at this point, the models are taking it to join the front coming through on Saturday afternoon, that will deflect it to the Carolina's, Virginia, and the Delaware area. You might see it come as far north as central New Jersey with the real heavy rain, but again, it should stay well to our south".

Today, we have a better chance at seeing some severe weather, especially late in the day. Bill Jaquemin says it "shouldn't be any more severe than the storms we experienced a few days ago", but he also said that "because of Tropical Storm Isaias, we could still see some tree issues". "The humid air coming in will be very unstable, and with that in mind, you always have the chance at having some active cells". Jaquemin said, "most of the storms will be scattered, but could produce some gusty winds and heavy rain. People have to understand that there's broken tree branches and limbs that could be shaken loose".

Today: A chance of showers and thundershowers after noon, then cloudy, high 86, there's a 60 percent chance of rain.
Tonight: Showers and thundershowers likely before 9 PM. Some storms could produce large hail and heavy winds, low near 65, Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
Friday: Mostly sunny highs in the mid 80's, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.
Friday night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with lows in the mid 60's.
