The "I Lift NY Super Crane" has set the final steel girder in place on the Rockland-bound span of the Tappan Zee Bridge and it's now break-time.

According to newnybridge.com, this behemoth piece of machinery can lift up to 1,900 pounds at a time, and its lifting arm is taller than a 30-story building. This herculean contraption can lift the equivalent of 12 Statues of Liberty at once. Why the down time you ask? According to lohud.com, the super crane needs a major maintenance once-over before it begins work on the Westchester-bound span, and eventually, the demolition of the existing Tappan Zee Bridge, which will begin next year.

You might remember back in July of this year, a 250-foot boom from the super crane crashed down onto the bridge. Governor Andrew Cuomo called the lack of serious injuries, "Nothing short of a miracle."

The super crane arrived onsite in October of 2014 after it sailed 6,000 miles from San Francisco, through the Panama Canal, and into Bayonne Harbor to be outfitted for its new assignment helping to build the new Tappan Zee Bridge. According to Thruway Authority Officials, the Rockland-bound span it still on schedule and on budget to open in the spring or summer of 2017.
