Famous Pizza Shop With Danbury Location Named No. 1 in the USA

When you think of places where you can get the best pizza in the country, many people would probably say some place in New York City, but guess what, these days, that would be wrong.

Let's face it, everyone has that one place that they think has the best pizza around, but when you expand that to the best pizza in the country, there's one pizza that seems to always come out on top, and that place is based right here in Connecticut and even has a Danbury location.

According to thedailymeal.com, who just released their annual list of the best pizza in the country, Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana once again topped the list.

This is nothing new for the pizza king, Frank Pepe's Pizzeria, with a number of Connecticut locations, including Federal Road in Danbury, has now topped this prestigious list for the fourth year in a row. Now that's what I call a dynasty.

So just what was the criteria for evaluating the best pizza in the country? The site looked at the pizza sauce, the crust, the flop, and the amount of grease. Here's what the Daily Meal came up with to describe their pick for number one in the country:

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is a household name for pizza buffs everywhere. The New Haven-based pizzeria is famous for its signature coal-fired White Clam Pizza featuring fresh clams, grated pecorino romano, garlic, oregano and olive oil. Not only is Frank Pepe’s the top pizza destination in the country, but it’s also one of the greatest old-school restaurants of all time.

The New Haven area did grab four of the six spots on the Top 101 list for Best Pizza in the Country. Aside from Pepe's, some of the other New Haven restaurants that placed near the top were Sally's Apizza at #9, Modern Apizza at #16, and Bar at #47. Two other Fairfield County spots also made it into the Top 101 and they were the Colony Grill in Stamford at #43, and Zuppardi's in West Haven at #45.

In Connecticut, aside from their New Haven and Danbury locations, you can find a Frank Pepe's Pizzeria location in Prospect, Fairfield, Waterbury, West Hartford, Watertown, Manchester, and inside Mohegan Sun in Uncasville.
