Tractor trailers are prohibited from traveling on major New York thoroughfares for the duration of the storm, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced via press release.

The ban started at 9AM and includes the New York Thruway, I-84, I-86/Route 17 and I-88.

Cuomo also announced the Metro North rail service would be suspended as of noon. MTA bus service in New York City is currently still running, but could be suspended as the storm continues.

In other transportation news, Cuomo's office said 99 percent of flights out of JFK International Airport and two-thirds of Laguardia International airport flights have been canceled. Flights out of Stewart Airport have largely been canceled, according to a check of its flight information tracker.

Cuomo declared a State of Emergency for New York beginning at midnight. The declaration allows the state to apply for federal funding later to assist with the cost of the storm response.
