A horrifying scene unfolded in the Naugatuck Valley yesterday afternoon, after a one-vehicle accident took a Derby man's life.

According to a press release we received from the Connecticut State Police - Troop I, 24-year-old Jonathan Vazquez of Lafayette Street in Derby, was traveling Northbound on Route 8 alone in a 2017 Honda Accord, around 1PM on Monday, January 4, 2020. Due to an unknown reason, the vehicle lost control, and veered off of Route 8 Northbound, approximately 1 mile North of Exit 23 in Beacon Falls. The vehicle continued across the grass shoulder of the highway, and then struck and went over approximately 100 feet of the metal guardrail. The Honda then went down an embankment, crossed both travel lanes of Beacon Fall's Cold Spring Road, where it went down a second embankment, rolled over, and finally landed on its roof on some railroad tracks.

Unfortunately, during the vehicles progress off of the roadway, Vazquez was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Waterbury Hospital by Beacon Falls EMS, but passed due to his injuries. Metro North Railway operation was suspended for a few hours while the accident was being investigated, but the rail was reopened by 6PM last evening. The accident is currently being investigated, and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is bring asked to contact CT State Police Trooper First Class Corona #1322 at Ct. State Police Troop I in Bethany, at 203-393-4200.

That's a very steep drop off at some of the elevated sections of roadway in through Beacon Falls, it must have been a terrifying sight.
