Waterbury is Without a Movie Theater Until This Weekend

We all know the old saying - 'When one door closes, another one opens', right? If you live in Waterbury and would like to go see a movie in a movie theater this week, you won't find an open door in town, at least for a few more days.

Movie theaters have been disappearing across Connecticut at an incredible rate over the past 4 years, but one operator has not given up on Connecticut yet - Apple Cinemas. Oh sure, they have closed down a couple of their properties, but Apple Cinemas is the one major theater operator that hasn't abandoned us here in Connecticut, take that Criterion and Regal.

News broke a few weeks ago that Apple Cinemas was making a bold move in Waterbury where they would be taking over the former Regal Cinema space at Waterbury's Brass Mill Center Mall. The first thought that popped into my head was "Well, what's going to happen to the Apple Cinema on Wolcott Street?" I know the answer today, it's closed. The Apple Cinema formerly located at 920 Wolcott Street is permanently closed. No current listings are available at Apple Cinema Waterbury, and the only movie that you can purchase tickets to today is for the early premiere of Ryan Gosling's new movie The Fall Guy on May 2, 2024 at 6 or 9PM.

That's the good news part of this - Apple Cinemas 12 at Waterbury's Brass Mill Center Mall is slated to open up it's doors for the first time on Friday, April 19, 2024 according to the Waterbury Observer. If you can't wait until then to see Civil War, I suggest you hit Bank Street Theater in New Milford, or Riverview Cinemas in Southbury.
