Police: 1 Dead, 1 Injured in Waterbury Convenience Store Shooting

The Waterbury Police Department is giving us a few more details into the city's latest shooting homicide, which occurred last night inside a Willow Street convenience store.

According to Lieutenant Silverio of the WPD, at around 10:57 PM on Sunday (November 8) Waterbury Police, Fire, and EMS responded to The Green Convenience Store at 173 Willow Street for a reported shooting.

When they arrived, the first responders say they found an unidentified 45-year-old male victim unconscious but breathing on the floor of the convenience store. The victim was reportedly found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Firefighters and EMTs provided medical care on the scene and then transported the man to Waterbury Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 3:25 AM.

A second male shooting victim, aged 33, had reportedly left the crime scene before first responders had arrived, but was located after he had collapsed in the road in the area of 56 Ridgewood Street. The second victim had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his abdomen and right arm and was also transported to Waterbury Hospital where he remains hospitalized.

Investigating officers reported that there had been several people inside the convenience store engaged in a loud argument prior to multiple gunshots being fired. After the gunshots, everyone fled, except for the first victim, who fell to the floor after being shot.

The identity of the victim is being held until the next of kin have been notified.
