Police: Road Rage Incident Leads to Death of Waterbury Man

An overnight stabbing has taken a young man's life in Waterbury, and the Waterbury Police are requesting the public's assistance in finding the perpetrator. According to a press release we received from Lieutenant David Silverio of the Waterbury PD, the city's latest homicide began to unfold early Sunday morning in the Brass City

On Sunday, August 8, 2020 at 1:31AM, Waterbury Hospital contacted the Waterbury PD about a walk-in patient that had suffered a life-threatening stab wound to his torso. The man received emergency surgery, but was later pronounced deceased. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Shawn Delacruz of Congress Avenue in Waterbury.

During the police investigation, it was determined that Delacruz had been driving a vehicle with three other passengers on Sperry Street, and had almost been involved in an accident with another vehicle, described as possibly a light colored 4 door, near the intersection of Johnson Street. Delacruz drove up and stopped behind the other vehicle in the vicinity of 95 Willow Street, got out of his vehicle, and started arguing with the other driver.

During the argument, the suspect male allegedly stabbed Delacruz in the torso with a knife, jumped back into his vehicle, and fled the scene. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, 6 feet tall, and a stocky build.
