We Need a Real ‘Lady Danbury’ in Danbury
It's funny to hear Connecticut towns and cities referenced on National TV shows.
If you've ever seen Gilmore Girls, it's set in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut and every other episode mentions Naugatuck, Hartford, New Haven, etc. The huge hit movie Mystic Pizza comes to mind too. Recently, Mrs. Large has been watching the Netflix show Bridgerton, and a character on the show is named Lady Danbury. Pretty unusual right?
The show is produced by TV powerhouse Shonda Rhimes. I don't see anything in her past to connect her to Connecticut? But Gilmore Girls on the other hand, show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino was inspired to set her series here after a real-life visit to Washington Depot, the Mayflower Inn, New Milford, and West Hartford. I guess we're always trained to find the real-life inspiration for fictional characters.
Which leads me to: who could be our real Lady Danbury? I'm sure there are plenty of authentic transplanted Brits here, but who could you see claiming the official title of "Lady Danbury"?
It has to be someone regal, sharp-tongued, insightful, and authentic - Connecticut royalty. The first local Danbury lady that popped into my mind was Andrea Gartner, the tireless advocate for all things City Center Danbury. Mrs. Large thought of the Property Manager of Danbury Fair - Maura Ruby. I also thought of Phyllis Cortese of the Ives Concert Park, or Dawn from Dawn's Pizzazz. Maybe Allison Stockel from the Ridgefield Playhouse? What do you think? Who should be the real Lady Danbury?
