Weather Insanity Catches Connecticut by Surprise

Do you know how many crashes were reported to Connecticut State Police?

During Connecticut's first snow storm of the season, CT State Police fielded 1,341 calls, 230 of those calls involved vehicular accidents. Two of those crashes were serious, 10 involved minor injuries, and there was one fatality.

So where did "we" go wrong? During I-95's Ethan and Lou Morning Show, I was reading the same weather forecast from Accuweather.com. from 6 am until 10 am calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow. Hey, Non-accuweather, you weren't even close! Greater Danbury got between 8 and 11 inches of snow. Does that mean we can blame the meteorologists for not doing their job correctly?

The storm really kicked in around 4 pm catching drivers unprepared during rush hour. Once the snow started to fall, it came down like you read about! So, who are we going to blame for the Thursday afternoon drive-time debacle? Some drivers complained that the DOT failed to pre-treat the roads. Other drivers pointed to reductions in DOT staffing.

The reason for the miserable rush hour commute accordable to DOT spokesman, Kevin Nursick was the timing of the storm. Take a rapid snowfall plus high-density rush-hour traffic, add a couple of spinouts and a number of disabled vehicles and now you've got a situation where the big-boy snowplows are unable to clear critical roads and highways.
