Entertaining friends and family in your home can be fun. We love entertaining and I think it's in my blood. My dad says that when he was growing up, my grandparents always had parties with friends from the neighborhood. My grandmother would make some of her delicious German food (family recipes) and it was apparently very popular with everyone in the neighborhood.

With as busy as everyone is these days and as expensive it can be to go out, I love this idea from the Huffington Post. The put together a list of nine reasons why we should bring back the cocktail party that was so popular in the 1950s and 1960s. Truthfully, the only reason I need is the first one they list: "You can drink what you want, without paying a ridiculous sum."

The other points are good ones too, though. Being able to use the fancy glasses and serving trays that were either on your registry or found at a thrift store is another good reason. I have crystal glasses that I love, but barely get used and this would be a perfect occasion to use them. Plus, I got all 30 pieces for under $20 at the Stormville Ultimate Family Yard Sale. So of course I would want to use them as much as possible!

The article also talks about being able to have a conversation without anyone interrupting you, being able to prepare for people's known food allergies, and being able to stay as long as you like (or until the hosts kick you out!). The more I read this article the more attractive a good old fashion cocktail party sounds.

Maybe this will be one of my resolutions for this year. To gather family and friends, in our home, for a fun cocktail party and be able to see each other more often. I wouldn't even mind getting dressed up for it, I think that would be fun too. Not a bad resolution to make.
