It's the most hyped movie opening in decades. It's expected to set records left and right at the Box Office, but the bigger question is....will you be prepared to see it

Now let me start off by saying I am not the biggest Star Wars fan on the planet, far from it, as a matter of fact I have only seen one Star Wars movie from beginning to end in a theater. (Revenge of the Sith). With that being said you obviously can tell I have not had the date circled on my calendar for the last 3 years. I have not been waiting in line for weeks to see it, nor do I actually know who all the characters are and what they represent. However I will be attending the premiere on Thursday evening thanks to my son, (big fan), who got me a ticket.

I have to say that all the hype over the last, what, year or so has got me a little curious about this new movie. Now I do know the basic premise and story line of the movie series. I know that Darth Vader is Luke's father, and I know Princess Lea looked pretty good in her slave outfit, and that Yoda is and will always be one cool dude, but that's about it.  So I guess from a journalistic and pop culture point of view I am looking forward to seeing the movie just to have a few questions answered. 1.) Where is the saga headed,  2.) Will Luke Skywalker wind up like his father and turn to the dark side and finally  3.) Will new director J.J. Abrams film make it's projected 1.5 billion and go where no man has gone before, (I think that's actually a Star Trek reference). Well whats the difference, Star Wars, Star Trek, Star Light, Star Bright, it's all the same to me.

So now your probably wondering if you need to take a crash course on Star Wars older movies to understand the saga. I did a little research for you, and thanks to the folks at lifehacker.com here are some things you should know.

We don't know yet which previous movies you'll need to watch to understand the story of The Force Awakens. In fact, it’s entirely possible that you won’t need to watch any of the old movies movies to understand this new one. I followed along with the only Star Wars movie I saw back in 2005 with just a basic understanding of the premise. So if you’re dreading the idea of a 12-hour Star Wars marathon, go ahead and skip them.

It has been made clear that The Force Awakens will be drawing on a lot of material from the original trilogy from the 70s and 80s—also known as episodes 4, 5, and 6. It takes place after the events of those films, and many characters from those films will be returning, so if you want to know why everyone gets nostalgia-gasms when Han Solo comes on screen, the original movies are key.

Just keep in mind: the original movies move at a much slower pace than most modern movies, so don’t get discouraged if the movie isn’t filled with explosions and a racing plot in the first half hour.

Now this may seem like a lot of homework just to go see a new movie, but alas I must remind you this is not your ordinary holiday blockbuster, this is an institution, an instant classic, and will most likely be one of, if not the highest grossing movie of all time. So enjoy, but If your Star Wars knowledge is like mine do what I did, watch the video below and get kinda caught up in about 3 minutes. May the force be with you !!!!
