Winter Weather Advisory Issued for the Danbury Area
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for our area for tonight through Thursday (February 5) at 10:00 AM.
The NWS warns that our mild winter weather will be on hold for a short time tonight through the early part of the day on Thursday as a system that's heading our way will produce all types of different precipitation including some snow, sleet and freezing rain before liekly turning to all rain.
We'll get a brief break Thursday afternoon, then, as temperatures turn milder, we can expect some rain, heavy at times during the day on Friday. That rain could end up becoming small snow showers as temperatures drop to the upper teens and low 20s by Friday night. The temperature could cause a freeze up of wet untreated surfaces.
Colder areas of our region, like northern New York and New England, could see an all snow event on Friday with several inches, and up to a foot of snow possible in certain areas. Northern Connecticut, especially in the northwest corner of Litchfield County, will see a combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain all day on Friday.
Right now, the forecast looks pretty good for the weekend, but here's what you can expect over the next 48 hours:
- Tonight: Freezing rain and sleet, mainly after 10 PM, low around 30.
- Tomorrow: Freezing rain and sleet before 9 AM, then rain mixing with freezing rain between 9 AM and 10 AM, changing to all rain after 10 AM. High's in the low 40's by tomorrow afternoon.
- Friday: Rain during the day, heavy at times with up to an inch of rain possible. High's on Friday will be well above freezing in the low 40's.
