Construction on Danbury’s New 7-Eleven Begins

Danbury Mayor Joe Cavo said it best, "That property always drove me crazy." He was referring to Danbury's number one eyesore, the dilapidated building that was once Bennigans restaurant.

My morning show partner, Lou Milano, was the first one on location to capture photos and video as the demolition crew brought in their big machinery to finally tear it down to make way for the construction of a new 7-Eleven gas station which is scheduled to open in August or September, according to a Newstimes article. With the construction of a new Danbury 7-Eleven comes state improvements, including a new traffic light and a realignment of the entire intersection.

Since Bennigans's closed down in 2007, the building has severely deteriorated, and for years residents have complained about vandalism and the dumping of waste on the property.

According to a Patch article dated March of 2013, some of the former restaurants used to stand on the property were Alligator Alley, Rumba's, the Rattlesnake Grill, and Spencer's Steakhouse. 

New 7-Eleven owner, Mir Sabbir Ahmed, told the Newstimes that the store will be roughly 5,000 square feet, will include 12 fueling stations and will create approximately 20 to 25 jobs. As Mayor Joe Cavo was looking over the demolition, he said;

More than anything, I’m glad to see that that building is torn down and we’re still developing those spots and we’re getting those properties cleaned up and being used for something productive.
