A Mahopac woman allegedly was caught handing off drugs to a roommate who is currently in jail.

On January 12 around 8:30 p.m, A Putnam County Jail correction officer noticed suspicious contact between a male inmate and a woman visitor.

The officer determined that the woman had allegedly passed drugs to the inmate and the drugs were seized.

Corrections officials notified members of the Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Investigators responded to the facility and arrested the inmate, 49-year-old Philip C. Callaci, and the visitor, 38-year-old Dawn N. Lagatella, of the same Mahopac home.

The drug hand-off was captured on a security camera video recording, police say.

Lagatella was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband, all felonies

She was committed to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

Callaci, who is awaiting trial on a previous drug charge, was charged with promoting prison contraband, a felony, and a misdemeanor for criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He was committed back to the jail with bail set at $50,000 cash or bond pending his next court date.
