Happy Halloween! Tis the season for people to look for ways to scare themselves. Everyone loves a good haunted house or haunted anything, for that matter, during the Halloween season.

Pictures of abandoned buildings can give me to creeps sometimes. I drive by and go for walks at Fairfield Hills all the time, but it can still creep me out. This is the long closed state psychiatric hospital in Newtown. It closed in the 90s, but they refurbed one of the buildings to use for the Town Hall and have built a Youth Center and an ambulance garage on the grounds in the same style as the old buildings.

Fairfield Hills is one of my favorite places to go and take pictures. The abandoned buildings can make for some really nice pictures, though it makes me sad that they have just been left there to rot for 20 years.

My family and I went for a walk there the other day and I brought my camera. So I thought I'd share some of the pictures. If you have never been to Fairfield Hills I recommend walking around the campus. There are some great views and some really unique views too.

One picture, in particular, I wanted to share is of a window. I originally took the photo because something was jammed in the frame and I wanted to zoom in to see what it was. However, when I got home and looked closer I noticed writing on the window. Or what looks like writing. It's backwards, so if it is writing it was written from the inside. It was probably done years ago when the gates weren't up and people still explored the buildings, but it was a little creepy to see when I zoomed in.

Here is the original picture of the window.

Not sure what it says or if it even says anything. Two of the words look like "name" and "Carol," but who knows.

It's fun to walk around Fairfield Hills and look at the old buildings, but please don't get too close. Remember, these buildings have not been in use for 20 years. Some buildings have had parts of them crack and fall to the ground and I can't even imagine what the inside looks like. Admire them from a distance, 15 feet to be exact.
