The ABC’s of Connecticut
If you were to go through the alphabet, what are things in Connecticut that would spring to mind for each letter? The Danbury News Times put together a list, Connecticut: A-Z, and it's interesting to go through the list to see what represents each letter. Plus, like the Weird Connecticut Names post, they include a little information for each choice.
Here is a sample from the list:
- "D" is for Danbury Prison: It's been referenced in the movie "Blow" and "Orange is the New Black" is based on the writer's experience in the prison. Plus, there have been a bunch of celebrities that have called the Danbury Prison home for a time. The latest famous resident being Real Housewives star Theresa Giudice.
- "E" is for ESPN: The sports network was founded in Connecticut in 1979 and is based in Bristol.
- "F" is for 'First in Flight': In 2013 Gustave Whitehead (a Bridgeport native) was recognized for piloting a flight over Fairfield County in 1901, which was more than two years before the Wright brothers flew. So Connecticut was 'first in flight.'
- "G" is for GE: This is one of the largest firms in the United States and it's headquarters are in Fairfield.
- "H" is for Hedgefunds: The owner of the world's largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates, lives in Connecticut.
