A 12-year-old is safe after an attempt was made to lure the child into a vehicle on Thursday afternoon (September 1) in Bethel.

The Bethel Police Department said in a press release that a seventh grade student was walking home from the bus stop at around 3:15 PM, when they were approached by a man driving what appeared to be a black sedan. The report says that first, the student said no to a ride home, only for the operator of the car to demand that the 12-year-old get in.

Police say the seventh grader safely fled, and was not in any physical contact with the driver of what appeared to be a black Ford Crown Victoria. The driver has been described by Bethel Police as a white male in his forties who had a clean shaven face with slicked back, black hair, and spoke with a deep voice.

Anyone who has information about the vehicle and/or operator is asked to call the Bethel Police Department immediately at (203) 744-7900.

The BPD encouraged parents to speak to their children about the dangers of getting into strange vehicles with unknown people, and to be prepared with an emergency plan should any similar incident occur.
