It's that time of year when leaves are all around us, and if you live by Candlewood Lake remember you can't use the lake to get rid of your leaves.

According to newstimes.com and the Candlewood Lake Authority, excess leaves become a source of nutrients that can increase algae and weeds. By dumping additional leaves into the lake it will accelerate the natural “filling in” process of a lake and deplete the lake of necessary oxygen as the leaves decompose.”

So, the Candlewood Lake authority asks residents to collect their leaves away from the lake.

The vast majority of Candlewood Lake homeowners are held responsible and also asked to be very careful to not let their leaves enter the Lake. However, every year there's always substantial evidence of leaves having been dumped into Candlewood Lake.
