Remember that brush fire in New Fairfield that started Saturday? It's under control now, but not before doubling in size and burning for two days.

According to the Danbury News Times, the fire split into two separate fires and spread out to 28 acres across the state forest. Luckily, it was never a threat to any people or homes and other structures.

Fire departments from other Connecticut towns and from New York came to help fight the fire, some coming from as far away as 75 miles! Thankfully, by Monday the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were putting out the last "hot spots" in the area.

Susan Chapman, the First Selectman of New Fairfield, expressed her gratitude for all those who helped bring the fire under control,

“I’m very proud of my fire department and very appreciative to all the surrounding towns that responded to New Fairfield,” said Chapman, who added that fire departments came from as far as 75 miles away. “It was like a firefighter convention in my town. Any kind of fire truck you can imagine was in my town.”

Thank you to every single firefighter who was there and brought this fire under control. You do what so many of us can't even imagine doing and we are grateful to you for that. Stay safe!
