What’s Up With Calls Coming In From Numbers That Look Like Yours?
Getting calls from your own number or a number very similar to it? It's like, you feel you should answer it, but at the same time, you’re saying to yourself, "This is strange!"
What’s going on here is a super annoying scam, where the callers are using a similar number, on purpose, with "Spoofing" technology to try to trick you into picking up.
As Brobible explains it, we are more psychologically inclined to answer the call, thinking it’s a family member, friend, or affiliate because the number looks familiar.
Usually, it ends up being some recording regarding the IRS, local authorities, or a sales gimmick that seems shady. The FCC says that they’re trying to get personal info from you. Be sure not to give them any.
It’s a good move in general to get your name into the Do Not Call Registry, but that works with telemarketers only. These seem to be downright scammers, and the registry won’t protect you from them.
