Exploring Local Parks: Waldo State Park
This past weekend we decided to take advantage of the warmish weather. My family loves going for walks, so these cold temperatures were starting to drive us crazy! The park we chose this time had a nice easy trail and it's located in Southbury, CT.
Waldo State Park has some great trails for mountain biking and we did see quite a few people there that day riding their bikes. So if you are like to take your bike on trails, this would be a good park to check out.
In addition to biking trails, hiking and fishing are also popular at the park. We, obviously, opted to walk the main trail down to Lake Lillinonah. It's less than 2 miles there and back to the parking lot, so it was perfect for a day that wasn't the warmest.
The trail that we were on was nice and scenic, we could see the other trails that went off into the woods and there were quite a few. You are walking in the woods on a trail, which means that even the main trail can be a little rocky, so keep that in mind when you are picking out what shoes to wear.
Once we reached the lake, we were able to walk down to a little beach that stretched along the trail for a bit. Everyone really enjoyed hanging out by the water and my husband tried to teach me and the kids how to skip rocks. The lesson didn't go very well, so I think we'll have to return soon to try again!
We really liked this park. It was nice to get some much scenery in a shorter walk. The scenery down by the lake is beautiful and I wouldn't mind spending more time there.
You can find out more information about this park by visiting their website.
